Triathlon Club Meeting

Triathlon Connection will hold a general meeting for its members on March 24th at REI in Rancho Cucamonga at 7:00 PM. Our guest speaker will be Cherie Grunfeld ; multi Ironman age group winner, founder of Exceeding Expectations, and author of Become an Ironman.

From 1992-2000, Cherie Grunfeld has nine consecutive finishes in Hawaii and four Age Group wins, including back-to-back first-place finishes in 1999 and 2000. Cherie holds the current Age Group record of 11:58:29 in the 55-59 Age Group, which she set in 1999, her best finish ever. She set standing course records when she finished first in her age group at Ironman Europe ’97 with a time of 11:17:42, and at Ironman Lake Placid ‘99 with a time of 12:23:07. She also placed second at Ironman New Zealand in 1994. Cherie earned the only perfect 100 score in the 1999 World Triathlon Corporation Age-Group Rankings, which won her the unofficial title of the “fittest of the fit” for Ironman age-group racing that year. In tribute to her excellence, Ironman named her women’s 2000 Age Grouper of the Year.

Cherie is the founder of Exceeding Expectations; a program in the San Bernardino School District which serves an inner-city population, is designed to encourage at-risk kids to move their lives in a positive direction, using the sport of triathlon as the vehicle. The organization’s goal is to offer underprivileged kids opportunities to participate in a lifestyle that is healthy, goal-oriented and very unlike that which they experience in their everyday lives. Exceeding Expectations strive to replace negative influences with positive role models and to instill in the kids a powerful new discipline of setting measurable goals and working hard to achieve them. Cherie is also the author of Become an Ironman available on Amozon.com. The book is a very personal take on the wonderful sport of Ironman. It contains not only training and racing tips but a number of reminiscences and stories, as well as plenty of terrific pictures taken by veteran photographers of the sport.

Please join us for a very special meeting.
